IBM is extending its alliance with mobile network provider AT&T with a deal that brings AT&T’s NetBond service to IBM’s SoftLayer cloud platform. The companies say the move bolsters security and performance in hybrid cloud environments.

More specifically, the connection will enable NetBond customers to link their own on-premise IT infrastructure to SoftLayer’s private network and cloud services using AT&T Virtual Private Networks.

The news follows up with the recent announcement of Intel TXT as a featured add-on to Softlayer to embed security down to the chip level within the data center.

“Businesses look to AT&T and IBM to deliver best-in-class solutions to meet their most demanding needs — especially when it comes to cloud,” said Jon Summers, SVP of growth platforms, for AT&T Business Solutions. “Together, we’re making the network as flexible as the cloud and giving enterprises confidence they can migrate their business systems to the cloud and still meet their security, scalability and performance requirements.”

The companies say the product should be available in first quarter of 2015.
