Google Play goes down twice after hacker tests vulnerability

Google Play became unavailable to Android users and app developers this week after a hacker tested a vulnerability he found in the developer console.

Turkish developer Ibrahim Balic took responsibility for the hack that left Android users unable to download new apps, and limited app developers from updating their own, according to a report by CNNMoney.

Balic created an app to exploit a flaw he found in the publishing system. While he didn’t expect for it to be successful, it knocked all users off the platform. Google Play first crashed on Sunday when he first uploaded the app, and again on Monday when he resubmitted it.

Balic was apologetic and told CNNMoney that he had no “malicious aim.” He said he notified Google of the vulnerability, but has not heard back from the search engine giant.
