save up to $20 get free apps on the Apple App Store’s 5th birthday

App Store 5th Anniversary

When the Apple App Store launched in 2008, it contained about 500 apps. Now, on its fifth birthday, it shows over 900,000 of them.

In celebration of the anniversary, some rather popular ones are available for free.

“Five landmark games and five groundbreaking apps” can be found in an App Store section dedicated to its fifth anniversary. You can grab them for free for a limited time here’s the complete list:

Apps:

Barefoot World Atlas – a fabulous interactive world atlas  with a ton of features

Day One (Journal/Diary) – an intuitive journal for recording  your daily life

How to Cook Everything – over 2,000 gourmet recipes for  budding chefs

Over – add custom captions, logos and stylish doodles to your photos

Traktor DJ – “mix like a pro” with this feature-rich app for  DJs

Games:

Badland – this one picked up an award from Apple for design

Infinity Blade II – an entertaining action game, winner of  many of awards

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery – an action adventure  game incorporating touch-based puzzles

Tiny Wings HD – a fun game that was chosen as iPhone Game of  the Year in App Store Rewind 2011

Where’s My Water – can you solve the physics-based  puzzles?

Popular apps for the iPhone and iPad, some of which usually cost upwards of $20,  were being offered for free in Apple’s online App Store since Monday to commemorate the store’s fifth anniversary today.

On the App  Store for the iPhone or iPad, users will see a “5 Years of the App Store” banner  with details on the apps and games available. The deals are only available for a  “limited time.”
